The Former President's System of Retribution and Reward

The ex-president's insatiable desire for retribution has rapidly morphed into a organized framework. During the past year, the president's fury and whims have taken on the shape of official policies in ways comparable to historical repressive systems. Justice department personnel who fail to comply are promptly dismissed and replaced by supporters. Opposing leaders who challenge him face legal action, trial and punishment. Adversaries have been designated under administration orders as “anti-American”, “anti-Christian” and “against free markets”, and warned with legal action as “security threats”.

The Justice System Restructured

Every case involving targeting of critics and immunity for loyalists exhibits its own particular characteristics. Yet, regardless of their specific character, they represent manifestations of what has emerged as a deliberate technique. Those events are anything but coincidental. Trump's cleansing of federal attorneys and FBI personnel, accompanied by his placement of supporters in senior roles, commenced quickly, soon developed a pattern, and has now been shaped into a system. The justice department and the Federal Bureau have been transformed into political organizations under his direct orders to carry out his demands. Wrongdoing has been turned into standard. It represents the system of punishment.

Administration is more concerned with penalizing the leader's perceived enemies than they are with safeguarding our country's safety.

Inside the Apparatus

The origin of this mechanism has been uncovered in the lawsuit of multiple previous high-ranking law enforcement officials submitted in September in the US district court in Washington against top official Kash Patel and justice department head another official for wrongful dismissal in “a campaign of revenge against the officials for what the accused deemed to be a failure to demonstrate proper devotion”. In the complaint that a former acting director, the previous temporary head, recounts a conversation in which Patel “freely acknowledged the impropriety of his actions”.

Driscoll had tried to defend agency personnel from being dismissed, the complaint states. The director advised him that “they” – understood by the official to be the White House and federal prosecutors – had directed him to fire anyone who they determined as having worked on a law enforcement case against the president. The filing continues: “He explained that he had to fire the individuals his bosses told him to fire, because his ability to hold his own role relied on the removal of the agents who were involved in investigations involving the President. The director explained that there was nothing he or Driscoll could do to prevent these or any other terminations, because ‘the bureau attempted to put the President in detention and he hasn't forgotten it.’” When he informed him he was disregarding the bureau's own internal rules, he allegedly said “he recognized that and he was aware the character of the summary firings were almost certainly unlawful”.

Widespread Consequences

Following his alleged admission to him, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been weakened and repurposed for his revenge apparatus. Six of the FBI's top officials were dismissed or forced out in the initial period of the government. About 4,500 lawyers at the justice department have taken a “voluntary departure plan”. A minimum of multiple government attorneys, among them those in the Manhattan division, stepped down in dissent over what they viewed as partisan influence in dropping the corruption case against the city leader, the mayor, in return for his assistance with Trump's Immigration and Customs Enforcement roundups of migrants. The anti-corruption unit of the department, which manages misconduct investigations, has been reduced to minimal staff. The rights protection unit has been devastated: 70% of its personnel has left. A third of top officials at the justice department have quit. The unit enforcing ecological regulations has seen departures of 50% its supervisors.

Favors and Penalties

Concerning the mayor's situation, the acting US attorney for the NY office, the official, quit in objection against what she labeled as the “exchange”. Tom Homan, his “border czar,” showed up as the implementer with him on Fox News to state: “If he doesn't come through, I will return in NYC.”. Additionally, a former official, previously the senior DoJ official and a ex-lawyer, who negotiated the agreement, was granted an court role, a possible pathway to the judicial branch.

Trump's exemption for offenses perpetrated while in government, granted by the remarkable ruling of the GOP-led on the judicial body, thus blocking his criminal case over the Capitol riot and safeguarding his political viability for the national vote, is the foundation stone on which he depends to shield his stalwarts. Given this protection, he has been empowered to enable corruption. The impact of the judicial ruling permeates his presidency and the political party down to its bones. The court matter has escalated. In the words of the former president's White House counsel John Dean remarked about the Watergate
