The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a prominent prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and delight the spirits of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary game development, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
